In Victorian London, the East End was filled with prostitutes, drunks and the most poverty stricken people in Society. All of the murders occurred within a one mile radius of the districts of Whitechapel, Spitalfields, Aldgate and the City of London Proper. All of the victims were women whose trade was prostitution. Although violence against prostitutes was not uncommon, what happened to these women was brutal.
Five murders have been accredited to the Ripper but it is thought that he killed a further 13 women between 26th December 1887 and 24th April 1891.
